The Independent Living Fund Scotland (ILFS) is a Scottish Government body established in 2015 with the purpose of maintaining the ILF Fund for recipients in Scotland (and Northern Ireland) following the closure of ILF UK in July 2015.
As a fledgling organisation, ILFS required the services of a “professional trainer” to assist in the design and delivery of the induction programme.
The brief was to devise and deliver “technical induction training” that introduced the newly recruited caseworker team to 45 Award Policies and 10 Standard Operating Procedures that would inform effective administration of the ILFS Awards.
The challenge was to gain and communicate an effective overview of the policies and processes and – using participatory learning techniques – ensure the caseworker team were sufficiently “capable and confident” to ensure a smooth transition of service from ILF UK to ILF Scotland at the beginning of July 2016.
In addition to induction training, we developed a range of induction resources and checklists, and designed a bespoke Continuous Learning Framework to assess learning progression towards capability and confidence.
Changing Mindz were subsequently invited to facilitate the initial induction programme for the Assessor team some months later. A mix of experienced social workers and occupational therapists, the Assessor role is to conduct regular reviews of the ILFS awards with recipients. We have been invited back on a further two occasions to facilitate induction programmes for new Assessors joining the team.
